Here is a perfect example of how skewered our view of reality is. Article after article about the shortage of women, some estimate at least 160 million in China alone, focus on women as if they are a trade commodity. In these countries they are treated this way far too often and yet Western articles reinforce that notion. Men need wives!! What can we do Jezebel?
The only way to put a stop to the practice of sex-selective abortion and female infanticide is time. But until underlying social attitudes change, dating and marriage in the age of a dramatically lopsided sex ratio will be a strange animal indeed.
Time? TIME? Really? This is NOT the answer to this problem. Waiting for something to go away is the WORST possible thing anyone can do. No, we need a global revolution, education, and women empowering other women. Yes, I said women empowering each other. How can we do this with all of these extra men running around who have been socialized to believe that they have to have a woman on demand?
This situation is disgusting. Beyond a hate crime it is an absolute holocaust. This is the consequence of hatred of women put into action and the control of women through their pregnant bodies by men because I can guarantee you the men are making these decisions and a pregnant woman who lives in a culture where she can only rely on a man has no choice. This is another example of the triumph of the patriarchy in getting women to hate themselves, hate other women, and be controlled. Brainwashing works and it has long-reaching implications to the detriment of everyone.
